Project Overview & Business Challenge

  • Company Introduction: We are a rapidly growing technology startup with a legacy database system that is no longer meeting our performance and scalability needs. Our current system is causing significant delays and data inconsistencies, hindering our product development and customer experience.
  • The Challenge: We need to migrate our database from an outdated system to a modern, more scalable solution (e.g., PostgreSQL on AWS RDS). The migration must be performed with zero downtime, and the new database must be optimized for performance to handle our growing user base. We are also concerned about data integrity and security during the transition.
  • Objective: The goal is to successfully migrate our entire database, ensure data consistency and security, and optimize the new database for high performance, reliability, and long-term scalability.

Detailed Job Description & Responsibilities

  • Core Tasks:
    • Develop a comprehensive migration strategy from the existing database to the new platform, including a detailed plan for data cleansing and validation.
    • Perform the database migration with a focus on minimizing downtime and ensuring a seamless transition for end-users.
    • Implement a robust and automated backup and recovery plan for the new database.
    • Configure and tune the new database for optimal performance, including indexing, query optimization, and resource allocation.
    • Establish a proactive monitoring system to track database performance and health.
    • Provide a detailed support plan for the first 30 days post-migration to address any unforeseen issues.
    • Document the entire migration process, new database schema, and performance optimization techniques.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical Expertise:
    • Proven experience in large-scale database migration projects.
    • Expertise in PostgreSQL, SQL, and database administration.
    • Experience with cloud database services, specifically AWS RDS.
    • Deep knowledge of database performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing.
    • Proficiency in scripting (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation of migration and maintenance tasks.

Soft Skills:

  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills to provide regular updates and documentation.
