Open Source Backup and Recovery Strategy Implementation

Challenge:

Many businesses face the risk of data loss due to hardware failure, cyberattacks, or human error. Implementing a reliable, cost-effective backup solution is crucial for business continuity. This project addresses the challenge of creating a robust, open-source-based backup and recovery system that is both scalable and easy to manage.

Analysis:

I will conduct a thorough assessment of your current data landscape, including data types (databases, file systems), data volume, and RPO/RTO (Recovery Point/Time Objective) requirements. I will analyze your existing infrastructure (on-premise or cloud) to design a tailored backup strategy.

Execution:

I will design and implement a scheduled backup policy using open-source tools. This includes configuring automated backup jobs, establishing a secure offsite storage location, and implementing a verification process to ensure backup integrity. A critical step will be performing a full recovery test of a non-critical system to validate the entire process.

Skills:

Data Backup & Recovery, System Administration, Shell Scripting, Data Integrity, Cloud Storage Management.

Tools:

Restic, BorgBackup, Cron, Bash, AWS S3/Google Cloud Storage.

Deliverables:

A fully automated and functional backup solution, a detailed recovery plan document, and a comprehensive post-implementation report.
