Project Overview:

We are in need of a skilled DevOps engineer to develop and implement a comprehensive backup and disaster recovery (DR) plan for our core services. This is a crucial project aimed at protecting our data assets, ensuring business continuity, and providing a clear and reliable path to recovery in the event of a system failure.

The Business Challenge:

Our current infrastructure lacks a robust and tested backup and DR strategy. We have critical data that is vulnerable to loss, and in the event of a major incident, our recovery time would be unacceptably long. This lack of a solid plan exposes us to significant operational and reputational risk. We need a professional to create a solution that gives us confidence and security.

Your Key Responsibilities:

As the DevOps Engineer for this project, you will take ownership of our data protection strategy. Your responsibilities will include:

• Needs Assessment: Analyzing our current data dependencies, service-level objectives, and recovery time objectives (RTO) to inform the DR plan.
• Strategy Design: Designing a tailored backup strategy that may include a combination of snapshots, incremental backups, and off-site replication.
• Implementation & Automation: Selecting and configuring the appropriate backup tools or cloud services (AWS Backup, Azure Backup, etc.) and automating the backup processes using scripting.
• Disaster Recovery Plan: Developing a detailed, step-by-step Disaster Recovery plan document that outlines the full recovery process.
• Test & Validation: Performing a full-scale test recovery to validate the effectiveness of the plan and ensure our ability to recover quickly from an incident.

Required Expertise & Skills:

We are looking for an expert with practical experience in data protection and systems administration. You must have:

• DR Expertise: Proven experience in designing, implementing, and testing backup and DR solutions.
• Cloud Backup Proficiency: Familiarity with cloud-native backup services and best practices.
• Database Backup Knowledge: Experience with various database backup methods (e.g., logical vs. physical backups).
• Automation & Scripting: Strong skills in scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python) for automating backup processes.
